STRATTON -- Mabel Lucille Walter, 89, died Friday (Feb. 3, 2006) at ElDorado Manor in Trenton.

She was born Oct. 27, 1916, on her family's farm south of Stratton to William Jennings and Ida (Williamson) Powell Blue. She graduated from Stratton High School in 1934. She graduated from business college in Chillicothe, Mo.,            

She married Russel Howard Walter on March 12, 1938.

She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Stratton and the United Methodist Women. She also taught Sunday school.

She worked for Bill Dahnke in the Farm Loan Office and later in Wauneta for Ted Voorhus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ida Powell; her husband, Russell; and brothers, William J. Powell and Robert Powell.

Survivors include her sons, Kenneth Walter and wife, Cheryl of North Bend and Richard Walter and wife, Penney of Stratton; one sister, Marjorie Carter and husband, Lee of McCook; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Services were today at the Community United Methodist Church in Stratton with the Rev. Brian Fong officiating. Interment followed the services at the Rose Hill Cemetery near Stratton.

Visitation was Sunday at the church.
