Speedway welcomes new promoter

Thursday, February 2, 2006

The technical inspector at McCook Speedway will take over as promoter for the track's 2006 season.

Chuck Gray of McCook said it was time to use his experience around racing and with the McCook race track to step up to the head job, after former promoter Dennis McFarland decided to retire.

Gray said the track is in good shape, and -- with the selection of drivers that has been racing at the 3/8-mile dirt track and putting on a good show for the fans -- he is excited about the season, which starts Friday, March 31.

While the mini-sprints have been dropped, the mini-trucks, classic modifieds, hobby stocks, stock cars and IMCA modifieds will return. The hobbies, stocks, and modifieds will be sanctioned by the International Motor Contest Association (IMCA).

The gates will open each Friday at 6 p.m. CT, with the races starting at 8 p.m. CT

The Friday night schedule is as follows:

March 31; April 21, April 28; May 12, May 19; June 2, June 16, June 23; July 7, July 21; and championship night Aug. 18.

There will be two nights of racing not on Friday. June 17 is a Saturday, the second night of the annual "Thunder on the Plains" weekend. July 27 is the annual Thursday night Red Willow County fair race. Those two shows will start at 7 p.m., CT.

McCook Speedway is on the Red Willow County Fairgrounds in the northwestern McCook, which is on the corner of West 5th and "O" Streets.
