R. J. 'Jack' Metcalf

OBERLIN -- Robert J. "Jack" Metcalf, 70, died Monday (Jan. 30, 2006) at the Decatur County Hospital.
He was born June 27, 1935, in McCook to Harold E. Metcalf and Dorothy Mousel. He graduated from Decatur Community Hospital in 1953 and attended Fort Hays State University.
He married Karen Anderson Richards on June 7, 1976, in Wichita, Kan. They made their home in Oberlin.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a real estate broker and a member of the United Methodist Church, Rotary, Masons and American Legion Post No. 70. He was on the board of directors for the Decatur County Museum and the Decatur County Health System.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold E. and Dorothy Metcalf; a son in infancy; and son, Kurt Robert Metcalf.
Survivors include his wife, Karen of Oberlin; stepfather, Charles Corcoran of Oberlin; sons, Brad Metcalf and wife, Laura of San Diego, Calif., Barry and wife, Patti Richards of Oberlin, Todd and wife, Rachel Richards of Nederland, Texas, and Doug and wife, Kristi Richards of East Grand Forks, Minn.; daughter, Kristen and husband, Randy McHugh of Oberlin; brother, Sid and wife, Cheryl Metcalf of Oberlin; and 11 grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church of Oberlin with the Rev. Doug Hasty officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin and Thursday, 8 a.m., at the church. A time of remembrance with the family will be Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorials are being accepted in his name at the church or the Decatur County Museum.
