PEORIA, Ariz. -- John F. Allen, 82, formerly of McCook, died Friday (Jan. 27, 2006) at his home in Peoria, Ariz., following a short illness.
He was born on July 21, 1923, in Axtell, Kan. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in Beatrice.
He married Geraldine M. Schank on Sept. 15, 1941, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beatrice.
He served in the U.S. Marines in the Asiatic-Pacific area during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 19, 1945.
He worked at the Debus/Metz Baking Company in Hastings. He also owned and operated motels in Sterling, Colo., and Cheyenne, Wyo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward R. and Rose Ann Murray Allen; his son, Jerald John Allen on Nov. 15, 1999; three brothers; and three sisters.
Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beatrice with the Rev. Mark Seiker officiating. Interment will be in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Beatrice, military graveside honors will be conducted.
Visitation will be Wednesday, 5-8 p.m., at the Fox Funeral Home in Beatrice, with a rosary service at 6 p.m. The family will greet visitors Wednesday, 5-7 p.m.
