New promoter ready for new Season at McCook Speedway

Friday, January 27, 2006

Former track technical inspector Chuck Gray takes over as the promoter of McCook Speedway for the 2006 season.

After former promoter Dennis McFarland decided to retire, Gray decided it was time to use his time with the race track and around racing to step up to the head job.

Gray feels the track is in good shape and with the selection of drivers that have been racing at the small 3/8-mile dirt track and putting on a good show for the fans, he is enthusiastic to begin the season, which starts on March 31.

Most of the classes that have raced in the past will return for the 2006 season.

While the Mini-Sprints have been dropped, the Mini-Trucks, Classic Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, Stock Cars and Modifieds will return.

The Hobbies, Stocks and Modifieds will be sanctioned by the International Motor Contest Association.

The gates will open each Friday night at 6 p.m. central time, with the races starting at 8 p.m.

There are two nights of racing not on Friday.

June 17 is a Saturday, the second night of the annual Thunder on The Plains weekend.

July 27 is the annual Thursday night fair race. Those two shows will start at 7 p.m.

McCook Speedway is on the Red Willow County Fairgrounds in the northwestern McCook, which is on the corner of West 5th and O Streets.

For more information, contact Chuck Gray at (308) 350-1811, or write to McCook Speedway, P. O. Box 1183, McCook, Neb., 69001-1183.
