Southern Valley, Bertrand girls to play for RVL title Saturday

CAMBRIDGE -- Southern Valley and Bertrand's girls basketball teams will battle it out for the RVL Championship on Saturday.

Southern Valley beat out Southwest 58-44 in the semifinals Thursday. Bertrand downed Arapahoe 56-46 for the finals as well.

Ashley Strickland and Megan Becker led the Lady Eagles to the win with 16 points. Janae Perkins posted 12 points and Mallory Murdoch had 9. Strickland was also a leading rebounder. Murdoch led in assists and Becker had 4 steals.

Southwest's Lisa Lord totaled 14 points. Cayla Skaritka followed with 13 points. Teammates Megan Dolan and Chelsey Quigley had 6. Lord had 7 rebounds and Alisha Weaver and Quigley had 3 steals.

Kylee Troutman contributed 19 points for the Bertrand win. Courtney Barnes trailed with 11 points and Kacy Secrest had 10.

Brittany Fanning tallied the points for the Warriors with 14 points. Alisa Paulsen and Abbey Breinig followed with 9 points and Cheryl Braithwait had 8.

Arapahoe and Southwest vie for the third spot in the championship on Saturday starting at 2:30 p.m. Bertrand and Southern Valley take to the court at 6 p.m.

The boys semifinals begin at 6 p.m. tonight with Arapahoe and Southern Valley. Bertrand and Cambridge begin their play at 7:45 p.m.

The Golden Plains Activity Conference begins next week with area teams vying for the championships.

First round action begins Monday and Tuesday. The semifinals will be Thursday and the Championships on Saturday.

WAUNETA -- Wauneta-Palisade's boys rolled past Medicine Valley 96-29 Thursday.

Russell Ridlen led the Broncos to the win with 22 points. Trevor Ridlen followed with 18 points. Marc Klima had 17 points and Andrew Isom had 10.

Joe Warneke was the top scorer for the Raiders with 13 points. Jordan Wilcox trailed with 8 points.
