OBERLIN -- Mamie Unger, 86, died Wednesday (Jan. 25, 2006) at the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.
She was born Dec. 27, 1919, in Oberlin to James Franklin Garver and Jessie Wilson. She graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1937 and received a teaching certificate from Fort Hays State University.
She married Ernest John Paul Unger on Feb. 21, 1941, at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Oberlin. The couple made their home on a farm west of Oberlin.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Faith Lutheran Church and the ALCW.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest Unger on Feb. 10, 1997; brothers, Ray and Virgil Garver; and a sister, Mary McDougal.
Survivors include sons, Roy Unger of Oberlin, Lemoin and wife, Connie Unger of Little Rock, Ark., and Evan and wife, Sheryl Unger of Oberlin; a daughter, Sue Olson of Goodland, Kan.; brother, Rex Garver of Belle Vista, Ark.; brother-in-law, Albert Unger of Oberlin; sister, Peggy May of Georgia; sister-in-law, Rita Garver of Oberlin; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at the Faith Lutheran Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Charlotte Strecker-Baseler officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Saturday, 8 a.m., at the church.
Memorials are being accepted in her name at the Faith Lutheran Church.
