The McCook Community College women's basketball team dropped its first two games to start the second semester.

On Jan. 10, McCook CC hosted Northeastern JC at True Hall. NJC Plainswomen used a late run to capture a 29-17 lead at halftime.

McCook CC played almost point for point in the second half however could not overtake the Plainswomen as they prevailed 58-45.

Kamillia Brown, freshmen guard from Kansas City, led MCC with 10 points.

Staci Moore chipped in 8 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 assists. Erin Nealey pumped in 8 points and snared a team-high 5 rebounds.

Sadiyyah Guilford, freshman post from Aurora, Colo., fired in 6 points in her first game of the season. Sam Stuart grabbed four rebounds and tossed in four points.

The Indians shot 38.5 percent from the field for the game while NJC drilled 43.6 percent.

The difference in the game came down to NJC's ability to convert points off of MCC's turnovers and offensive rebounding.

The Plainswomen held a 23-9 advantage in points off turnovers.

NJC grabbed 18 more offensive rebounds which led to 16 more shot attempts and 15 second chance points.

McCook CC women's basketball team was defeated by Doane JV Tigers 68-44 in Crete on Jan. 14.

MCC never recovered from a slow start and trailed at halftime by 13 points.

The Indians struggled shooting the basketball finishing the game with a 32.7 percentage.

Doane's JV shot 46 percent from the field.

McCook CC never got closer then 11 points after halftime and managed only 19 points in the second half.

Brown led the Indians connecting for 15 points while dishing out three assists. Moore pumped in seven points and three assists. Nealey and Tricia Perryman each swished through six points. Perryman snared a game-high 7 rebounds. This loss drops MCC to 5-11 on the season.

MCC played at sister school North Platte CC on Jan. 18.

McCook would leave for the locker room at halftime enjoying a 34-31 advantage. NPCC held on to a 61-57 home victory over the Indians.

MCC's shooting percentage from 3-point land and free-throw line decreased in the second half.

MCC had made five 3-pointers in the first half compared to zero in the second half.

While MCC hit 9-of-16 shots from the charity strip in the second stanza. Brown led McCook CC with 13 points and 5 assists. Moore pumped in 12 points and dished out 4 assists.

Stuart tossed in 12 points and snared 8 rebounds. Perryman grabbed a team high 13 rebounds, scored 9 points, dished out 3 assists and snatched 6 steals.

North Platte CC was led in scoring by Kiley Peterson who hit for a game high 28 points. Peterson was the lone Knight in double figures.

This loss dropped MCC to 0-1 in Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference play.

The MCC women's basketball team defeated Southeast CC 62-56 Saturday at Beatrice.

MCC trailed most of the first half down by as many as 12 points, but led at halftime 35-29.

Unlike the previous game against NPCC, MCC would come out after halftime and build upon its intermission lead.

Within the first 10 minutes of the second half, MCC enjoyed an 11-point advantage. With two minutes left in the game MCC led by 9 points.

After going 12-of-14 in the first half from the free throw line, MCC finished 22-of-37 for the game from the line.

Southeast closed the gap to a 3-point game with just 4 seconds remaining. Brown was able to knock in 1-of-2 free throws to put the game away.

Brown paced MCC with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

Moore knocked down 18 points, including four 3-pointers and 6-of-6 from the charity strip.

Nealey pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds -- 12 defensive. Perryman chipped in 9 points and 10 rebounds. MCC out-rebounded SECC 55-40. The win pulls MCC to 6-12 and 1-1 in the NCCAC.

Otero Junior College escaped True Hall Gymnasium with a 68-64 victory Monday after Deney Phommabout hit two free throws with seven seconds left.

The Indians never led and trailed by double digits in both halves. MCC cut the lead to two points with 37 seconds left.

After forcing an OJC turnover, MCC lost control of the ball and a loose ball would end up being tied up. The possession arrow pointed in the direction of the visitors, which led to a foul and Phommabout's two free throws.

Brown pumped in 20 points to pace MCC. Stuart swished through 18 points and pulled down a team high 9 rebounds. Florell chipped in 6 points. Perryman pounced on 6 rebounds on the night.

MCC shot 67 percent from two-point range and 31 percent from the three-point line. MCC hit on 14-of-19 free throws and out-rebounded OJC by two.

MCC won almost every single category in the stat sheet except the turnover margin where MCC had eight more turnovers. MCC turned it over 19 times on the night which led to 24 Otero JC points.

The loss drops MCC to 6-13 and 0-3 in South Sub-Region IX play.

MCC will be back in action this Friday when the Indians travel to Northeast Nebraska. MCC plays at Midland Lutheran JV on Saturday

MCC returns to True Hall with a contest against Brown Mackie at 6 p.m. on Feb. 2.
