Cambridge boys, girls reach Oberlin championship games

OBERLIN -- Second round action in the Oberlin invitational finished up Friday.

Cambridge and Hoxie take to the final match in both the girls and boys divisions Saturday.

Play for the girls begins at 5:30 and the boys at 7 p.m.

Cambridge's girls are 9-2 and the boys 10-1. Hoxie's boys are 7-3 and the girls are 9-1.

Cambridge's girls move into the finals after defeating Quinter 47-38 Friday.

Traci Keyser and Cristin Bruckman helped Cambridge to their 9-2 record with 12 points each. Bailey Soucie had 8 points and Shelby Schultz had 7.

Melisa Grandison led the Quinter girls with 12 points. Jamie Tilton followed with 11 points and McKenzie Kesler had 9 points.

Hoxie and Oberlin battled it out with Hoxie taking the win 64-62. Danielle Pratt led the Hoxie team with 27 points. Corinna Hoyt trailed with 13 points and Tiffany Goetz had 12.

Decatur Community (Oberlin) girls play Quinter for the third seed Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Lauren Fortin led the Lady Red Devils with 20 points. Lacey Ream added 17 points and Tricia Dorshorst followed with 16 points. Lydia Karnopp had 6 points.

Rawlins County hits the court with St. Francis for a chance at the fifth seed Saturday.

Rawlins County's girls squeezed out a win against Oakley 38-37. St. Francis rolled over Resurrection Christian 56-34.

Chelsea Kramer led the Rawlins County team with 13 points.

Bethany Holste posted 8 points and Sarah Miller had 6 points.

Oakley's Callie Baalman led the battle against Rawlins County with 10 points. Megan Dennis posted 8 points. Lindsey Hubert and Brea Teeter each scored 7.

Lauren Ross contributed 16 points to the St. Francis win. Megan Rice followed with 15 points. Alecia Zimbelman tailed with 8 points.

Aubrey Scott was the leading scorer for Resurrection Christian with 21 points.

Kathleen Christie had 6 points and Brittany Murrah had 4.

Cambridge and Hoxie's boys have moved up for their chance at the number one spot in the tournament.

Hoxie downed Oakley in the semifinals 64-51 and Cambridge defeated Quinter 70-65.

Waid Vontz led Cambridge to the win with 27 points. Anthony Lytle followed with 24 points.

Brian Ballou and Brett Palmer each scored 8.

Tyler Reed led the Quinter boys with 23 points. Trent Blackwill trailed with 20 points.

Brice Kesler had 9 points and Craig Finger had 8.

Hoxie's Jake Moss led the team to the win with 23 points against Oakley.

Tolliver Bird contributed 19 points. Thayne Spresser tallied 12 points.

Robert Cooksey was the top scorer for Oakley with 14 points. Chase Sperber had 12 points and Mykel Rodriguez had 7.

Oberlin and St. Francis' boys play for the fifth seed Saturday.

St. Francis edged out Rawlins County 65-60.

Oberlin walloped Resurrection Church 71-38.

Andy Inman contributed 20 points to the Oberlin win. Jobey Black totaled 12 points. Logan Fortin and Jesse Juenemann paired up with 10's.

Ryan Pauly led Resurrection Christian with 11 points. Tayler Hotz had 10 points and Austin Scott had 8.

Joel McAtee took top scoring honors for St. Francis with 22 points. Levi Weeden posted 17 points. Adam Peter had 8 points and AJ McAtee had 6.

Jeff Riener was the leading scorer for Rawlins County with 17 points. Rodney Rippe scored 16 points. Drew Basgall added 13 points and Cedric Green had 9.
