ALBION -- Shirley A. Darling, 65, died Sunday (Jan. 8, 2006) at the Boone County Health Center in Albion as the result of a stroke during her battle with cancer.
She was born July 29, 1940, to Theodore and Millie (Bannister) Schafer. She graduated from Albion High School in 1958.
She married John H. Darling Jr. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion on June 1, 1958. They made their home in Albion, Fullerton, Gordon, Scottsbluff, Norfolk and Arvada, Colo. They returned to Albion in 1996.
She worked as a bookkeeper and payroll clerk.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, the Hospital Auxiliary and various square-dancing clubs. She was also a member of the church choir and served on various committees at the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and great-granddaughter, Kaya Hunt.
Survivors include her husband, John of Albion; son, Kevin Darling and wife, Tami of McCook; daughter, Teddi Dubas and husband, Paul of Bennet; brother Gary Schafer and fiance, Lynn of Columbus; sister, Renalle Loshbaugh and husband, Bob of McCook; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at the Zion Lutheran Church of Albion with the Rev. Larry Sydow officiating. Interment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion.
