McCook squads play

at Hershey Friday,

host Sidney Saturday

The McCook High School boys and girls basketball teams will be back in action this weekend, playing games Friday and Saturday.

The Bison varsity teams, both 3-6, travel to Hershey Friday and host Sidney Saturday.

The girls play at 6 p.m. Friday and 5:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by the McCook boys at 7:30 p.m. both nights.

Bison sophomore girls

roll past Lexington

The McCook sophomore girls basketball team drilled Lexington on Thursday 55-25.

"The girls came out sluggish in the first half," said Bison sophomore girls coach Lynne Kinne. "They were able to come out in the second and make the necessary adjustments. The girls played as a team and finished the game on a strong note."

Ashley Carfield and Lindsey Hazlitt led the Bison with 12 points each. Jessica Einspahr tallied 9 points. Melissa Lyster had 7 points and Marissa Wallace 6.

The girls play at North Platte on Jan. 23.

Bison sophomore boys

pound Lexington 62-36

The McCook High School sophomore boys basketball team blasted Lexington 62-36 Thursday night at the MHS gymnasium.

The Bison will play at Chase County-Imperial Jan. 16.

McCook jumped out to a 22-10 lead in the first quarter and didn't look back.

Cory Gaston led the Bison with 17 points, including a 6-for-6 effort at the free throw line.

Chance Unger added 12 points, followed by Brady Dame 9, Andrew Reitz 9, Eric Rippen 7, Kendall Foster 4, Chris Stull 2 and J.D. Stone 2.

Reitz hit a pair of 3-pointers. Rippen and Gaston each hit one.

Dame pulled down 7 rebounds and Dame 5 and Gaston 4. Rippen had 4 steals. Gaston and Unger had 2 each.

John Dillard paced the Minutemen with 16 points.

"I was very pleased with our performance," said McCook sophomore boys coach Jeremy Vilk. "It was a good win with everyone contributing."
