Trojans, Eagles will meet in boys, girls title games at Cambridge tournament

CAMBRIDGE -- Cambridge defeated Chase County in both the girls and boys divisions Tuesday at the Cambridge Invitational basketball tournament.

Chase County's girls fell just three points short against the Cambridge ladies 58-55.

The Chase County Longhorn boys lost to the Trojans 61-45.

The Southern Valley girls defeated Hitchcock County 51-32 and the Eagle boys won 70-25.

Waid Vontz led the Cambridge Trojans with 21 points. Anthony Lytle tallied 17 points. Brian Ballou posted 10 points and Josh Keener followed with 9 points.

Traci Keyser led the girls with 20 points against the Longhorns.

Cristin Bruckman was also a top scorer with 14 points. Shelby Schultz followed with 13 points. Schultz was the top rebounder with 18.

The girls will play Southern Valley at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Whitney Paisley was the top scorer for the Longhorns totaling 17 points.

Sarah Miller added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Cara Kinnemann, Tabitha Russell and Jaci Liewer scored 6 each.

Longhorn Taylor Wentz led the boys in scoring with 12 points. Taylor Yaw contributed 9 points and Chris Larson followed with 8.

Wentz and Darrin Schultz led in rebounds with 6 each.

The boys finish the tournament on Thursday against Hitchcock County at 7:30 p.m.

Hitchcock County's boys tried to come back in the second and fourth but still came up short to the Eagles.

"This was a good a game for us against a good team," said Falcons Coach Mike Tines.

John Thompson led the scoring with 9 points. Adam Wright, Orrin Riggs and Josh Kershaw each had 5 points. Riggs, Thompson and Kershaw were also leading rebounders.

Southern Valley's Andrew Winscot led the team in scoring against the Falcons with 25 points.

Brock Einspahr was also instrumental in the win with 8 points and 15 rebounds.

Gaven Fults had 5 points along with Chance Bergen who had 4.

The Southern Valley and Cambridge boys boys play at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in the championship game.

The Eagles will also be vying for the championship against Cambridge after defeating the Falcons.

Megan Becker led the Eagles with 17 points against the Falcons. Janae Perkins tallied 16 points.

Hennessey Hogeland and Trisha Siebels doubled up with 7 point.

Mallory Murdoch and Alyssa Steele each scored 6 points.

Hitchcock County's Ashley Garner and Lexey Lewis shared scoring duties for the Falcons. Both posted 6 points.

Laken Cook and Trisha McDonald were also even each having 4 points. Garner, Lisa Faimon, Laci Brennan and Megan Cole led in rebounds.

The Southern Valley girls play the Chase County Longhorns on Thursday at 6 p.m.

ARAPAHOE -- Arapahoe's girls edged out Alma Tuesday 71-54.

The Warriors scored 29 points in the third boosting them to 59-31. Alma tried to come back in the fourth scoring 23 points before the clock ran out.

Abbey Breinig sealed the deal for the Warriors with 22 points. Cheryl Braithwait scored 18 points.

Alesa Paulson tallied 11 points.

The girls were 14-for-21 in free throws.

Gillian Hogeland led Alma with 17 points. Tara Monahan posted 11 points.

HOXIE -- Hoxie's boys and girls rocketed past Dighton Tuesday.

The girls won 78-9 and the boys 65-29.

Ashley Kennedy led the Indians with 17 points.

Tiffany Goetz had 13 points and Carissa Helm had 12 points. Corinna Hoyt followed with 11 points.

Michael Yergey and Thayne Spresser both had 13 points for Hoxie.

Derek Spresser followed with 12 points. Toliver Bird and Jake Moss also shared scoring with 9 points.

Dighton's Ashley Ming led the battle against Hoxie scoring 9 points for the girls.

Dylan Kuhlman totaled 12 points for the Dighton boys. Alex Budd had 5 points.
