OBERLIN -- Garrah Lillian Gaumer, 89, died Wednesday (Nov. 23, 2005) at the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.

She was born Dec. 24, 1915, in a sod house south of Jennings to Everett Jackson Bainter and Emma Wheelock. She graduated from Jennings Rural High School in 1933.

She married James A. Gaumer Dec. 24, 1935, at her parents home in Jennings. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Jennings United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star, Jennings American Legion Auxiliary, Heritage Association and Sweet Adelines Choir.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three grandsons.

Survivors include her sons, Dale and wife, Karen Gaumer of Columbus, Ohio, and W. James and wife, Judy Gaumer of Oberlin; daughters, Betty and husband, Carl Fitzgerald of Glen Elder, Kan., and Mary Arnold of Denver, Colo.; brother, Boyd and wife, Thelma Bainter of Hutchinson, Kan.; sister, Ethlyn and husband, William Tacha of Salina, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, 3 p.m., at the Jennings United Methodist Church with Janice Shobe officiating. Interment will be in the Jennings Cemetery.

There will be no visitation and the casket will be closed to the public.

Memorials are being accepted in her name at the Jennings Museum, the Jennings United Methodist Church or the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center.
