COZAD -- Lloyd Maynard Helberg, 85, died Tuesday (Nov. 1, 2005) at Southview Manor Care Center in Cozad.
He was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Brady to Ralph T. and Anna Grace (Ohlson) Helberg. He attended rural school until eighth grade.
He entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 10, 1942, and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 12, 1945.
He married Delores Mercer on Feb. 19, 1948, in North Platte. They made their home near McCook, where he was a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores in August 2000; his parents, Ralph and Anna Helberg; stepmother, Grace Helberg; grandson, Mark Hinz; a brother, Roland Helberg; a brother-in-law, Elvin Nelson; two sisters-in-law, Beulah and Donna Helberg; and son-in-law, Tim Waddell.
Survivors include his children, Anita and husband, Bob Kuhlman of Glenrock, Wyo., Gayle and husband, Jim Bird of Almena, Kan., Doug and friend, John Watson of Omaha, Eldon and friend, Bill DeKnight, of Traer, Kan., Kent Helberg and wife, Melvina of Blackwell, Okla., Jan and husband, Kim Wiemers of McCook, Trudy and husband, Jerry Burkholder of Bartley and Jay Helberg and wife, Barb of McCook; mother-in-law, Florence Mercer of St. Paul; one brother, Stanley Helberg of Oconto; three sisters, Annabelle and husband, Jim Kubicka of Windsor, Calif., Eleanor Nelson and Cora and husband, Morris Devine, all of Gothenburg; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday, 11 a.m., at McCook Christian Church with the Rev. Clark Bates officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
