LAKEWOOD, Colo. --Alma Jeanette Sanders died on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at the Villa Manor Care Center in Lakewood, Colo., at the age of 94.
Alma was born at home on her parents farm north of Holbrook on April 17, 1911. Her parents were John and Jessie (Arthaud) Haley. She attended school at Holbrook and graduated in 1928. She taught one year before entering St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, in Lincoln. She graduated in 1933 as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska.
On Sept. 7, 1935, she married Lawrence F. Sanders of Holbrook and lived on the farm north of Holbrook until 1993. She then lived in Arapahoe at their home. After being widowed she moved to Heritage Plaza in Cambridge and Prairie Pines Retirement Center in Arapahoe until February 2004. Alma then went to live with her son, Jim, in Lakewood.
Alma worked frequently as an RN throughout the years. She was a member of the St. Germanus Altar Society and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing Alumni Association. Alma enjoyed bowling, traveling near and far and visits from her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence on Feb. 2, 1993; an infant daughter, Jo Lucille in 1947; brothers, Bernard Haley and Leo Haley; sisters, Tressa Zimmer and Lucille Bellinger; and her parents.
Survivors include son, James P. Sanders of Lakewood; sisters, Rita Frolik of Lincoln and Thais Parilek of Shenandoah, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Nov. 25, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Germanus Catholic Church in Arapahoe with Father Robert Barnhill officiating. Interment will be in the Arapahoe Cemetery.
Memorials are being accepted in her name at the St. Germanus Catholic Church or the American Heart Association.
