OBERLIN -- Charles "Chuck" Votapka, 72, died Sunday (Oct. 30, 2005) at the Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.
He was born Nov. 11, 1932, in Decatur County to Guy F. Votapka and Helen M. Vermillion. He graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1950.
He served in the U.S. Navy and returned to farm north of Oberlin after his service. He also worked in construction and was the Decatur County Weed Director.
He married Marian Joy Cathcart of March 7, 1954, at Prairie Chapel in rural Oberlin.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Oberlin and the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Helen Votapka; brother, John Votapka; and infant sister, Mary Lou Votapka.
Survivors include his wife, Joy Votapka of Oberlin; sons, Charles F. Votapka II and wife, Gina of Ogallala and Daniel Votapka and wife, Lisa of Oberlin; daughter, Nancy Ellis of Topeka, Kan.; brothers, Howard and wife, Janette Votapka and Dale and wife, Cheryl Votapka, all of Oberlin; sisters, Faye and husband, Sylvester Meiti and Norma and husband, Gordon Anderson, all of Oberlin; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be Friday, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin with the Rev. Doug Hasty officiating. Interment will be in Big Timber Cemetery in rural Decatur County.
