McCook senior spikers win home finale vs. Longhorns
McCook's girls volleyball team edged out Chase County on Tuesday.
The Bison won 3 out of 5 sets against the Longhorns at the MHS Gym.
Jen Chmiel led the Bison with 5 aces and 23 digs. Lindsey Hazlitt also had 23 digs, 7 kills and 2 aces. Allison Smith total 19 kills and 3 blocks. Erica Clapp was the lead assist.
McCook volleyball coach Krystal Weber, whose team improved to 14-13, said Chase County-McCook is a good match to end the regular season.
"They've got a great program again this year," Weber said. "They should be going to state in Class C. We just played very well last night. We needed to get over the hump in one of these close matches."
For the first time with Weber as coach, the Bison were able to send out its seniors with a victory.
The seniors on the squad are Allyx Shields, Allison Smith, Whitney Fagot, Jen Chmiel and Alyssa Cook.
McCook will play Kearney at 10 a.m. Saturday in the first round of the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference Tournament at Hastings.
Weber said the GNAC field is even in terms of talent this season.
