OBERLIN -- Floyd "Smokey" Bryan, 83, died Thursday (Oct. 13, 2005) at the Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.
He was born April 30, 1922, in Traer, Kan., to Benjamin Lester Bryan and Birdie Mary Harshman. He attended Fairview District No. 98 and Traer and Decatur Community High School.
He married Elaine Grafel on Aug. 19, 1947, in Herndon. He moved to Oberlin in 1987.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He worked as a farmer. He was a member of the Oberlin Methodist Church, the Herndon VFW Post No. 7802, the Oberlin American Legion Post No. 70, Township Board, Traer School Board and the McCook Elks Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Wallace Bryan.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Bryan of Oberlin; son, Floyd L. Bryan and wife, Dale of Farlington, Kan.; daughters, Corinne Denton and husband, David of Topeka, Kan., and Susan Renk and husband, Kevin of Plainville, Kan.; sister, Eleanore Demmer and husband, Harold of Oberlin; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday, 10 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin with the Rev. Doug Hasty officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday, 1-8 p.m., and Monday, from 8 a.m. until the time of services. The family will receive friends Sunday, 7-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorials are being accepted in his name at the Oberlin Methodist Church or the Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.
