The area south of McCook is a flurry of activity as contractors continue their work on the city's new water treatment facility. Southwest of McCook on land purchased from Hancock Sand and Gravel, Cahoy Well and Pump Service of Atlantic, Iowa, digs a fresh water pit for use in drilling one of the city's two new fresh water wells. The first well is expected to be completed in 10 days. The second well will be drilled immediately following the completion of the first. Just down the road to the east, crews from Starostka Group of Grand Island set out the 12-inch pipe that will take the fresh water from the newly drilled wells to the city's new treatment plant. At the treatment plant facility, only one of the 12 giant filtration systems remains to be placed. The concrete dome on the city's new four million gallon water tank, where the treated water from the treatment facility will be mixed with the fresh water from the new wells is complete and crews are working to finish the concrete work on the side of he tank. City officials and engineers are meeting with state officials today to work out final details of the system.
