MACON -- Ellsworth W. Friehe, 84, died Monday (Sept. 12, 2005) at his home in Macon.

Ellsworth was born Nov. 28, 1920, in Culbertson to Fred and Emma (Liebrandt) Friehe. He moved with his family to McCook at a young age and graduated from McCook High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force.

On Sept. 15, 1946, he married Irma Marjorie Wegener. They lived and farmed in the McCook area until moving to Cambridge in 1971. While in Cambridge, Ellsworth worked for Frenchman-Cambridge Irrigation. He retired in 1989. They moved to Macon in 2000. Irma died in 2004.

Ellsworth and Irma enjoyed camping and their grandchildren will always cherish the camping trips with their grandparents. They remember their grandpa teaching them the true way to fish, the deer hunting trips and all the advice that he gave them. He enjoyed following his grandchildren in their sporting events. He made many wooden toys for all he grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Gilbert and husband, Michael of Kansas City, Mo., and Linda Dallman and husband, Dudley of Macon; one son, Mark Friehe and his wife, Dee of McCook; five grandchildren, Mischa Gurley of Olive Branch, Miss., Joshua Gilbert and wife, Casey of Olive Branch, Lisa Friehe and Scott Friehe, both of McCook, and Alicia Dallman of Macon; one brother, Ervain Friehe and wife, Nadine of McCook; and one sister, Dorothy Henton and husband, Garnet of McCook.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma; one daughter, Kay; and one sister, Elaine.

Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, 10 a.m., at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Becker officiating.

Additional services will be at the Peace Lutheran Church in McCook Friday, 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. Randy Wahl and Rev. Donald Becker officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Visitation will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Thursday, 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m., and also one hour before funeral services at the church in McCook.
