Edna M. Smith, 83, died Sunday (Sept. 11, 2005) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born Dec. 4, 1921, in Bartley to Sidney E. and Zetta (Clemments) Allen. She graduated from Bartley High School. She attended Kearney State College in 1976 to become an LPN.

She taught for a time, at St. Anne's in rural Hayes County, worked as a nurse's aid at the Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe and as an LPN at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. She later returned to the Good Samaritan Center and retired at age 70.

She married Lloyd Smith on May 29, 1939, in Oberlin. The couple lived in McCook, Indianola, Arapahoe and Cambridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd in 2004; two infant children, Lloyd Jr. and Sharon Yvonne; one brother, Cal; and one sister, Elda.

Survivors include her son, Wayne and wife, Beverly of Waverly, Kan.; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Sid and wife, Judy Allen of McCook.

Services will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Cambridge, with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Memorials are being accepted in her name at the Furnas County American Cancer Society.

Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge is in charge of arrangements.
