8th shutout

The fourth-ranked McCook Bison softball team recorded its 11th win in a row and eighth shutout of the season with a 5-0 win over Lexington Tuesday night at the Jaycees Sports Complex.

Taryn Placzek pitched the first six innings. She allowed four hits, struck out five and walked one.

Stephanie Douglas retired all three batters she faced in the seventh.

McCook scored its first run in the third when Austin Wilson singled and stole second base. Kayla Wilson then singled her in.

In the fourth, McCook scored three more. Jerssica Einsphar walked and Andrea Soden singled. Kirstie Hiatt then bunted and the ball was thrown into right field, scoring both Soden and Einsphar. Marissa Wallace then doubled in Hiatt for the third run of the inning.

The fifth run was scored in the fifth when Einsphar walked and stole second. She then scored on Andrea Soden's ground ball to second which was erred.

Lexington threatened in the sixth with runners at first and second, but McCook's Jessica Einsphar threw out the runner at home from right field.

"We started slow at the plate, but kept putting pressure on them with bunting and running until we could get some timely hitting," said McCook softball coach Dale Lortz.

"We made some mistakes, but again played great defense when we it was needed. The pitchers did a good job."

McCook's JV and varsity play at Gothenburg Thursday. The JV game starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
