HAYS, Kan. -- Mary J. Puelz, 96, died Monday (Aug. 22, 2005) at the St. John's Rest Home in Hays, Kan.
She was born Jan. 5, 1909, to Pierre and Ella (Yates) Macfee in Oberlin, Kan. She attended school in Danbury, McCook and Wilsonville before graduating from Herndon High School in Herndon, Kan.
She married Lowell Vernon Puelz on June 10, 1931. The couple farmed west of Danbury until moving to the J.T. Harris ranch in 1943 and to McCook in 1953.
She taught at rural schools in Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas. She was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 29, 1981; her only daughter, Marilyn Carlson on Feb. 27, 2004; one brother, Doug Macfee; one sister, Dixie Hein; and one sister-in-law, Retha Boyer.
Survivors include her son-in-law, Earl Carlson of Hays, Kan.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and relatives and friends.
Services will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. David Rowe officiating. Interment will be in the Danbury and Marion Cemetery in Danbury.
