HASTINGS -- Mandy Jean Howard and Erik Alan Buderus were united in marriage July 2, 2005, at Saint Michael's Catholic Church in Hastings with the Rev. Michael Houlhan officiating.

Parents of the couple are Dean and Mary Jo Howard of Palisade, Cheryl and Jerry Barcelona of Berthoud, Colo., and Keith Buderus and Denise Stramel of Firestone, Colo.

Grandparents of the couple are LaVeta Howard of Palisade, the late Johnnie Howard, Ron and Pat DeWester of Benkelman, Clayton Claus of Douglas, Wyo., the late Lois Claus and Gene and Loretta Stramel of Mancos, Colo.

The bride wore a white sleeveless gown with a scoop neckline and banded empire bodice filled with outlined wine floral embroidery and light touches of bead work. The back was finished with decorated shoulder straps leading to a wine double bow and an embroidered semi-cathedral train with wine layered tails. She wore a silver and wine rhinestone tiara with a waist length veil. The veil was embroidered with wine floral detail accented with a touch of beading. She carried a bouquet of a dozen red roses.

The bridegroom wore a black tuxedo with a wine vest and matching bow tie.

Jolie Fortkamp of Lincoln was the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Jody Crouse of Haigler, sister of the bride; DeAnn Davis of Palisade, sister of the bride; and Sara Bardsley of Parker, Colo. They each wore a black chiffon a-line knee length dress with spaghetti straps. They carried bouquets of red roses.

Best man was Rob Willicott of Hastings. Bridegroomsmen were Tim Mischnick of Omaha; Mike Baptist of Delanson, N.Y.; and David Shamburger of Johnstown, Colo. They each wore a white tuxedo jacket trimmed in black with black pants and wine vests and bow ties.

Dawn Applegarth of Great Bend, Kan., served as the bride's personal attendant.

The flower girl was Angela Crouse of Haigler, niece of the bride. She wore a white and wine dress styled after the bride's dress with a rhinestone tiara. She also carried a bouquet of red roses.

Tyler Davis of Palisade, nephew of the bride, was the ring bearer. He wore a tuxedo matching that worn by the bridegroom. He carried a ring pillow made by Pat DeWester, grandmother of the bride. The pillow was accented with black and wine ribbon. The crystal bead work came from a necklace that belonged to the bride's great-great-grandmother, Alice Knapp.

Ushers for the ceremony were Lyndsey Buderus of Berthoud, Colo., sister of the bridegroom, Sean Benson of Hastings and Jake and Justin Blecha of Venus, Calif., cousins of the bride.

The lector was Dennis Blomstedt of Palisade, godfather of the bride. The organist was Kay Hoffman of Juniata. Lacey Beemer of Hastings and Jon Rogge of Omaha were soloists. Alicia Crouse of Haigler, niece of the bride, served as the guest book attendant.

Following the ceremony a reception, dinner and dance took place at the Hastings City Auditorium. Host couples were Mark and Beth Funkey and Scott and Nikki Sjuts of Hastings. Servers were aunts of the couple, Barbara Jean Blecha and Gay DeWester of Omaha; Julie DeWester of Benkelman; Marylin Howard of Hayes Center; Rita Stramel of Hays, Kan., and Janice Hopp of Mead, Colo.

The couple honeymooned in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

The bride teaches language arts at Doniphan-Trumbull Public Schools. The bridegroom is sports editor for the Hastings Tribune.

The couple is making their home in Hastings.
