An American experience

Last year Daryl Bonow and I traveled to the annual July 1st celebration held at Memorial Park in Omaha to hear two truly great bands from our past; Three Dog Night and The Doobie Brothers. As reported in this column, thirty minutes before the show was to begin a violent thunderstorm rolled across the park, delivering torrential rain, hail, and intense lightning that struck at least one person in attendance. Obviously, the concert was cancelled, much to the dismay of the 40,000 or so folks in attendance. We left disheartened but determined to go back again this year, regardless of who the bands were. Amazingly, the same two bands agreed to come back and try it again.
