SIDNEY -- Betty Powell, 68 of Sidney, Nebraska died Sunday morning, June 19, 2005 at Beverly Health Care in Sidney.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 22, 2005 in the Sidney Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Jim Nichols officiating.

Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to Seventh Day Adventist Church, the Dorwart Cancer Treatment Center or the Memorial Health Center Hospice.

Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Joan Powell was born June 29, 1936 at Hutchinson, Kansas to Floyd Edward, Jr. and Roxie Jewell (Baker) Anderson. They moved to Akron, Colorado where her parents farmed. She graduated from Akron High School in 1954, marrying Roscoe E. Hansen on June 27, 1954. He died in July of 1958. To this union two sons were born, the youngest of which died in 1963.

In 1959 she met Glen Powell and they were married in November of 1959. He adopted her two sons and they had one son and adopted a daughter.

Betty was a homemaker and nurses aide until her divorce, after which she attended LPN school at North Platte, Nebraska before moving to Sidney after graduation. She worked at Memorial Health Center and their Long Term Care, then did traveling nursing and worked at Beverly Health Care, retiring in 1999 to take care of her mother.

She has always been faithful to God. John 14:27-29 explains how she felt. She loved family and friends very much.

She leaves to mourn her sons: Joe Powell of Sterling, CO and Jonathan and wife Judy Powell of Ketchum, OK; her daughter Sonja and husband Rich Thomas of McCook, NE; two brothers: Floyd, Jr. and wife Betty Lou Anderson of Log Lane Village, CO and Robert and wife Anne Anderson of Taylor, SC; 7 Grandchildren; 3 Great-grandchildren; aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roscoe Hansen, her parents and one son, Mickeal Hansen Powell.
