East B construction crews pouring it on

Friday, June 17, 2005

With the water main and storm sewer work completed for East B highway construction, the first sections of concrete were set to be poured today. Project Manager Duane Collins said the pouring of the west-bound lanes will be from a section of road east of Airport Road to the intersection of East 15th and B south of the Cedar Inn Motel. The intersection at Airport Road and East B will be passed over during the pouring so it can remain open to traffic.

Collins said that, weather permitting, he hopes for the pouring to advance to East 13th Street sometime next week.

"Concrete paving is the main thing we'll be working on until Phase I is complete," said Collins.

Collins estimated the completion of Phase I for late July to early August.

Temporary driveways and intersections will continue to be used for businesses and residences impacted by the road construction.

The recent storms and rainfall that rolled through the area set back the concrete pouring.

"The weather last week cost us some time with paving," Collins said. "But we should, hopefully, get it made back up."
