ARIZONA -- Lois L. (Holmes) Lawritson, 96, died May 20, 2005, at her home in Glendale, Ariz.

She was born Nov. 17, 1908 in Bloomington, Neb., to Leonard E. and Emma D. "Darly" (Morrison) Holmes. Her family moved to Trenton in 1913. She graduated from Trenton High School in 1927.

She married Earl R. Lawritson on Sept. 18, 1928. They owned the drug store in Trenton until 1953. They moved to McCook in 1956. Lois attended McCook Junior College and received an associate degree in 1957. She received her bachelors of arts degree in Education from Kearney State College in 1968. She taught in the McCook Schools from 1958 to 1974. She had lived in the Phoenix area for the past 12 years.

While she lived in McCook, she was a member of the First Congregational Church, AAUW, Eastern Star, Retired Teachers Association, Nebraska BTTT, and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. After moving to the Phoenix area, she enjoyed spending time with her son and daughter, and their families who lived in the area. She also learned to play cribbage and liked to watch the professional sports teams on TV, especially the Diamondbacks. Of course the Huskers were still her favorite team.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; daughter, Mary Ann Wiegand; and great-grandsons, Todd Earl Dodge and Justin Robert Lawritson. Also preceding her in death were a sister, Maysel Taylor; and brothers, Newton, Leonard, Ed, and Robert "Ducky" Holmes.

Survivors are her daughter Joan and husband, Francis Seybold of Peoria, Ariz.; her son, John Lawritson and wife, Miriam of Phoenix, Ariz.; and granddaughter, Betsy and husband, Don Wagner of McCook. Other survivors include 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, June 18, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Herrmann Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Greg Stuckwisch officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
