McCook Mayor Dennis Berry and Cora Berry, top left, run the Cornhusker State Games torch up Norris Avenue on Wednesday evening on its way to the Gold Medal Talent Search in Norris Park. Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy, center right, emphasized the importance of exercise and was kept busy presenting awards. Performances ranged from instrumentals like Rebecca Gordine's trumpet solo, top right, Elizabeth Weidner's version of a pop song, right, and dance by the CGD Tappers, left. Winners of the talent search were Katie Lampe in the 13-18 year old solo dance, Shelby Stevens in the 12-and-under vocal solo, Kendall Fassler in the 12-and-under instrumental solo, NJ Turbo Cloggers for the 12-and-under group dance, Roni Ely in the 13-18 vocal solo, Rebecca Gordine in the 13-18 instrumental solo and the CGD Tappers in the 13-18 group dance. The torch continued its thousand-mile journey to Lincoln by heading north toward North Platte this morning. The 2005 Cornhusker State Games will take place July 9-17, with 57 sports at more than 75 locations in and around Lincoln. More information is available at http://www.cornhuskerstategames.com.
