CAMBRIDGE -- Phyllis Fichtner, 74, died Wednesday (May 12, 2005), at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
She was born on the family farm in Red Willow County, north of Bartley on April 15, 1931, to Ralph and Virginia (Estergard) Ohlson. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1948.
On Aug. 7, 1949, she married Kenneth Fichtner in McCook. The couple made their home in Cambridge. She began work for the Cambridge Memorial Hospital as an aid. She returned to college at Central Nebraska Community College and received her LPN, and returned to the Cambridge Community Hospital. She was a surgical nurse and retired from the Tri-Valley system after 35 years of employment.
She was a member of the Congregational Church, Women's Fellowship Bible Study, and the Hospital Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1998; a special friend, Myron "Hap" Potter; and two sisters, Joleen Ohlson and Beverly Bowker.
Survivors include her son, Terry, and wife, Theresa Fichtner of Bartley; three daughters, Mary, and husband, Rob Jackson of Harlan, Iowa, Nancy Fichtner of Cambridge, and Lori, and husband, George Fong of Smithfield; two sisters, Dixie, and husband, Pete Billodeaux of Oberlin, La., and Sonja, and husband, Pete Carlson Wentzville, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Florence Fichtner of Billings, Mont.; one brother-in-law, Paul Bowker of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Congregational Church in Cambridge with the Rev. Dan Keener officiating. Internment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge.
