BENKELMAN -- Martha Wilson, 93, died Saturday (May 7, 2005), at Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman.
She was born Dec. 24, 1911, to John and Elizabeth (Strachblein) Gobel in Gotebo, Okla. At an early age, she moved with her family to Nebraska, where she attended school in Scottsbluff and Chadron, and graduated from high school in Whitney, as class valedictorian in 1931.
On June 26, 1931, she married Kermit Wilson in Hot Springs, S.D. They lived near Chadron and spent several years farming near Hays Springs before moving to a ranch north of Parks in 1946.
She was a homemaker, and at the age of 27, she gave her life to Christ.
She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Friends Missionary Society and inspirational songs with "Singing Friends."
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Gotebo; her husband, Kermit Wilson; one brother; four sisters; and one great-granddaughter.
Survivors include two sons, Nason Wilson and wife, Marjorie, and Duane Wilson, and wife, Colleen, all of Parks; daughters, Sharlane Jones and husband, Tom of Benkelman, and Bonny Smith and husband, Jim of Arvada Colo.; three sisters, twin, Leta Cullers of Ord, Emilie Couch of Crawford and Bertha Olson of Springfield, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m. (MDT), at Trinity Baptist Church in Benkelman, with the Rev. Matthew Price and the Rev. Robert Sander officiating. Services will conclude at the church. A private internment will take place at a later time.
There will be no visitation. Memorials may be given in her name.
