softball team

at Region IX

LA JUNTA, Colo. -- The McCook Community College Indians Softball team knocked off Lamar 5-3 in the first round of the Region IX Tournament in La Junta Colo., Friday and Saturday, but lost 2 games to finish fifth with a season record of 7-28.

Felicia Wilkins led the McCook batters with a double, single and 2 RBI's, Jessica Blair had 2 singles and an RBI and Maegan Peterson had 2 singles.

McCook had lost 14 games in a row to Lamar including losses of 13-0 and 19-2 in McCook earlier.

Maegan Peterson pitched all 3 games for a record 21 innings, 12 runs, (8 earned runs), 23 hits, walked 10 and struck out 3.

McCook lost Game 2 to Arapahoe CC 1-3. Wilkins singled and scored McCook's only run in the 6th. Bases were loaded in the 1st and 6th inning but could not get the hit needed.

McCook also came up short in game 3 against Trinidad State Jr. College 1-9.

A double by Sabrina Davis, two sinlgles by Peterson and a single by Katie Brawner was the only offense that the Indians could muster.

Coach Scott Walker said "we just ran out of gas. One pitcher and 10 total players just isn't enough to compete in Region IX.

The girls gave it all that they had. We didn't leave anything on the field. The win over Lamar was big and we gave Arapahoe all that they wanted."
