The McCook High School girls tennis team swept all nine varsity matches from Hershey Tuesday at the Bison and Elks Courts.

The matches were the final preparation for the Bison girls team for the Class B state tournament May 19-20 at Lincoln.

The win improved the Bison squad's season record to 6-2.

McCook also won matches at Nos. 7-8 singles and No. 4 doubles.

"The team gave a great effort to close out the regular season with a shutout win," said McCook tennis coach Matt Wiemers.

"I was pleased to see the girls play as well as they did in their final duel.

"It was the last time for seven seniors to play at the Bison Courts. We will miss those seven girls next season, as they have been major contributors to our success the past four years.

"I appreciate all they have done to help build our program. They are so instrumental in all we have accomplished. Their leadership, work ethic and competitive attitude will be handed down to our younger players."

"With the duel win, we also picked up some key wins," Wiemers said. "Jessica played a good match and improved her season record to 10-20. Her record is misleading, as she has been playing well the last half of the season.

"Jessica has done a wonderful job this season and we will need her to continue to play well at state next week. We will have to see who she draws in the first round.

"Angela also played well in both her doubles and singles matches. She is playing with so much confidence and perseverance. Angela improves her record to 23-7 and is in great position to earn a seed.

"I like her chances at advancing deep into the tournament. If she continues to play at the level she has the past three weeks, she will pick up some points for the team.

"Kim and Tausha also looked good and earned a win to push their record to 27-11 at 1 doubles. They have done a great job this year against some quality opposition. I think they are going to get seeded, it's just a matter of how high.

"Natalie and Jennifer had a solid match and improve their record to 37-3. They will be a top four seed and have a great opportunity to get to the semifinals on Friday. They have had an awesome year and have been consistent all season.

"They will be a tough draw for people at the tournament. I really like their chances at getting to the finals. We will just have to see how the brackets draw out."
