MCC women's basketball team signs two recruits
The McCook Community College women's basketball team has completed a successful recruiting season signing two post players from Colorado and a highly regarded point-guard from Kansas City.
MCC Coach Michelle Orton said she has completed her recruiting by signing Kamilla Brown of Kansas City, Sadiyyah Guilford from Aurora, Colo., and Amanda Terpstra from Elizabeth, Colo.
"We're really excited about these three recruits," MCC Coach Michelle Orton said. "We have a strong group returning and we're adding a great bunch of recruits," Orton said.
The three most recent recruits combined to average 40 points and 28 rebounds during their final high school season.
Kamilla Brown, is a 5-6 guard from Paseo Academy High School in Kansas City, Mo. who averaged 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game at last season. She was named to the Kansas City, Mo., All-Star team and the Kansas City, Kan., All-Star team.
"She is a great ball handler and shooter. She will definitely be one of our top guards and will help our program on the offensive end next year," Coach Orton said.
Sadiyyah Guilford is a 6-0 post from Hinkley High School in Aurora, Colo., and averaged 13 points and 12 rebounds her senior season.
"She will add great size and power to our team," Orton said.
"Sadiyyah will help us inside next year, which was an area where we were at a disadvantage this year. We're looking to use her as our top rebounder next year," Orton said.
Amanda Terpstra is a 5-9 post from Elizabeth, Colo., who averaged 11.3 points and 11 rebounds per game.
"She will add a lot of strength and quickness to our 4-spot," Orton said.
"Amanda has great hands and reads the floor well; she plays hard and works to get every rebound. She will definitely add a lot to our post positions and will help Sadiyyah with rebounding along with our returning sophomores."
"With these additions, we're hoping to add a little excitement to our game. Teams in the past couple years have worked hard and people seem to appreciate that, but next season we're hoping to be more competitive," Orton said.
