A tree grows for Coach Coleman

Monday, May 2, 2005

McCook Senior High's Student Council and the City of McCook Tree Advisory Board plant a flowering "Royalty" crab apple tree in front of McCook Senior High, in memory of coach and teacher Ron Coleman, who died in an accident at his home in November, 2004. The groups planted the tree in observance, too, of Arbor Day, in unusual spring and April weather -- snow. Tree board member Dan Dueland and McCook city councilman Phil Lyons backfill dirt around the trunk of the tree that will blossom with dark pinkish-red blossoms in the spring. Shown during the planting ceremony are (from left) Tiffany Jones, John Swanhorst, Christi Burrows and Jessica Einspahr, Student Council members; Phil Lyons, representing the McCook City Council; Rebecca Rawlings of StuCo; and tree board members Ann Kennedy (partially hidden), Bruce Hoffman and Ann Pate; City of McCook Public Works Director Kyle Potthoff and tree board member Dan Dueland.
