EUSTIS -- Rex Wayne Houser, 68, of Eustis, died Saturday (April 23, 2005) in Kearney.

He was born March 23, 1937, in Elwood to Jesse and Frieda Hueftle Houser. He moved with the family in 1940 southwest of Elwood. In 1949, they moved to the family farm south of Eustis, where he farmed, ranched and later raised his own family. He attended country school through the 8th grade at Stowe school. He farmed with his Dad and brother and raised and sold purebred Hereford cattle through Houser Hereford Ranch.

On March 7, 1957, he married Catharine Davis. They later divorced.

On Dec. 17, 1967, he married Carolyn Easterday Miller in McCook. He put irrigation wells down in the early 60's and put underground water systems in. He custom baled from Stockville to Bertrand and custom farmed for years.

He was president of the Board of Education for Dist. No. 22 for many years and a member of the United Methodist church of Eustis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Raymond; his parents-in-law, Donald and Irene Easterday; and granddaughter, Jacklyn Fiene.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; children, Shirley and husband, Bob Turner of Omaha, Laura and husband, Duane Hearold of Swartz, La., Kelly and husband, Brent Nigh of Republic, Mo., David and wife, Leanne of Topeka, Kan., Marilyn and husband, Steve Smith of Wisner, Sindy and husband, Deon Fiene of Elwood and Tina and husband, Kevin Bruning of Bancroft; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Homer of Curtis and Clifford of Cambridge; two sisters, Doris and husband, Albert Farr of Cambridge and Lillie Donner of Farnam.

Services are Wednesday,11 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Eustis with Rev. Bonnie Linton-Hendrick officiating. Burial will be in the Westview Cemetery at Eustis.

Visitation today from 3-8 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Eustis.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
