BEAVER CITY -- Kenneth C. McClelland, 86, died Sunday (April 24, 2005) at Methodist Homes in Holdrege.
He was born June 20, 1918, to Charles and Emma (Williams) McClelland in Almena, Kan. He grew up on the farm near Almena. He graduated from Almena High School with the class of 1936.
He served in the Army during World War II.
On Aug. 5, 1947, he married Noreen Davis in Almena. She preceded him in death on July 26, 1948, from complications giving birth.
On July 3, 1949, he married Darleen Roeder in Almena. He worked at First State Bank in Almena for ten years before moving to Beaver City on May 29, 1957 where he was employed by First State Bank of Beaver City. He retired in February of 1983. He continued to serve on the board of directors for the bank at the time of his death. He started McClelland Insurance in 1964 and continued to operated it up until his death in Beaver City.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Beaver City where he had been finance chairman for over 30 years. He was a member of the Beaver City Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and American Legion Post, all of Beaver City. He served on the City Council at one time and coached summer baseball teams.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Noreen Faith Davis on July 26, 1948.
Survivors include his wife, Darleen of Beaver City; son, Kennis and wife, Nancy of Beaver City; two daughters, Kendra and husband, Dave Anderson of St. Paul and Kaylene and husband, Jeff Bell of Holdrege; brother, Robert and wife, Donna McClelland of Almena; sisters, Beth and husband, Elton Bryant of Norton; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services are Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Beaver City with the Rev. Linda Knipping officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Beaver City with military rites.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Tuesday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and prior to services Wednesday at the church.
