McCook JV boys, Med Valley girls claim Hayes Center track team titles

Brett Burton/McCook High School Members of the McCook High School junior varsity boys track 3200 meter relay team compete at the Hayes Center Invite at McCook Wednesday. The McCook junior varsity boys and the Medicine Valley girls captured the team titles Wednesday at the Hayes Center Invitational track and field meet.

The meet took place at the McCook High School track.

The McCook Bison JV boys overpowered the competition with 186 points.

Wauneta-Palisade was second with 112 points, followed by Hitchcock County with 77, Hayes Center 63, Medicine Valley 50 and Southwest 36.

Medicine Valley won the girls title with 139 points.

Wauneta-Palisade was second with 101, followed by Southwest 100, McCook JV 86, Hitchcock County 80 and Hayes Center 17.

McCook girls coach Steve Clapp said several of the personal records were quality enough to strengthen their positions in varsity and district competitions.

The McCook JV girls athletes had 16 PR's in this meet and one event winner.

Adrianna Hagan won the 200-meter dash in 27.9 seconds.

Second place finishers were Austin Wilson, 100-meter dash, 13.2; Sara Montey, pole vault, 7-6; Marissa Wallace, discus, 103-8; and Brittney Hagan, shot put, 33-2.

ARAPAHOE -- The Cambridge boys and Southern Valley girls won the Arapahoe Invitational Wednesday.

The Cambridge boys team won with a total score of 130, while the girls came in 4th with 51.

The Southern Valley girls team score was 113 and the boys scored a 19, coming in 9th.

Eustis-Farnam girls finished in 2nd with a 78 and the boys in 7th with a 34.

Dundy County boys followed Eustis-Farnam with a 31 and the girls came in 6th with a 49.

Arapahoe girls scored 17 and the boys 18.

ARAPAHOE -- The McCook St. Patrick's girls track team competed in the Arapahoe Invite Tuesday.

St. Pat's coach Jim Steinke said was proud of the girls.

The Knights placed 7th with 15 points, and the B team placed 9th with 2 points.

The highest finishers were Jessica Jankovits, Meagan Carfield, Molly Peck, and Natalie Sis for second place in 4x100 relay with a 59.3 and double winners were Molly Peck (8th grade) and Meagan Carfield (6th grade). Amy Jo Stone also placed 4th in the discus.

Five records were broken in the girls division.

The St Patricks boys did not place.

The Bison junior high boys and girls will compete at 2 p.m. Friday at the Holdrege Relays.
