Spring Spike Fest

GRAND ISLAND -- The McCook Red Crush Seniors volleyball team captured the silver medal in the Gold Division at the recent Grand Island Spring Spike Fest.

The Seniors faced the Quad Co. 17 Gold, Platte Valley Juniors and Sparx Mustang Volleyball, in pool play and scored the most points of all teams at 4-2 set placing them in the Gold Bracket in the tournament.

The Seniors beat the NE West 17 team in 3 sets to advance to the finals.

They faced Quad County 17 Gold in the finals of the Gold Bracket and won second place in 2 sets.

Team members include Courtney Moore, Sara Cappel, and Denae Owens, of McCook High School. Brittany McConville and Chelsea Morgan of Southwest High School. Crystal Zwickl of Maywood and Mary Gohl of Hayes Center.

The Red Crush Seniors are coached by Michelle Reiners, assistant volleyball coach at McCook Community College.

County meet

The Medicine Valley boys golf team won the Hitchcock County Invitational at Heritage Hills Golf Course Monday with a team score of 355.

Dundy County came in second with 364 followed by Elwood with a 379, Wauneta-Palisade at 391, Southwest at 402, Hitchcock County at 420 and Chase County JV at 433.

Individual medalist was Jordan Wilcox from Medicine Valley with an individual score of 75.

Derek Larimer of Dundy County followed with an 81, followed by Richie Bennett of Elwood with an 85.

Other medalists included Zach Robinson 87 and Josh Nutt 91 of Medicine Valley.

Dundy County medalists were Justin West 89 and Leon Preston 96.

Hitchcock County's medalists were Adam Wright 91 and Justin Heffner 96.

Rounding out the medal-winners were Ryan Nott 91 of Elwood, Marc Kilma 91 and Brad Licht 97 from Wauneta Palisade and Southwest's Jesse Randolph 95, Jeremy Kreiling 96 and Jason Ellicott 96.

Individual junior varsity Medalist placed as follows:

Andy Houser-45 Medicine Valley, Rick Carholm-48 Chase County, Tyson Bullis-49 Elwood, Mark Haag-51 Southwest and Joe Warneke-52 Medicine Valley.

Other team scorers were Brenen Hammond 102 and Ricky Wilder 106 from Medicine Valley; Justin Hardwick 98 and Ryan Sargent 111 from Dundy County.

Trenton Kotschwar 119, Isaac Naughtin 106, and Kellen Holl 97, Elwood; Cody Egle 103, Michael Gardner 100, Caleb Durham 104 of Wauneta-Palisade.

OBERLIN -- The Colby boys golf team won the Oberlin Invitational Saturday at the Oberlin Country Club with a score 317.

Trego followed with 330 and Oberlin at 364.

Other team scores included Atwood-375, Dundy County (NE)-376, Phillipsburg JV-387, Southwest (NE)-402, Oberlin JV-411, Quinter-421, Goodland JV-428, and Oakley JV-457.

Individual medalists were Chris Staley 72 of Colby, Chris Finley 76 of Colby and Nolan Smith of Trego with a 79.

Other top ten medalists included Matt Pfannenstiel 79 and Nathan Locke 81, both of Trego; Jonathon Richards 80 of Oberlin; Andy Fikan 83 of Atwood; Justin West 84 of Dundy County; and R.J. Ladenburger 84 and Sean Mengel 85, Colby.
