A mob of shoppers gathered outside the 4-H building on the fairgrounds in McCook Saturday morning, waiting for the start of the annual McCook Humane Society yard sale. Organizers announced Monday morning that the rummage sale grossed $6,230, the silent auction raised $805 and the bake sale made $268. Humane Society president and volunteer Ann Dowd said society officials were very, very pleased with the results of the annual event. "It was just wonderful," Dowd said. "All the shoppers ... and the volunteers, who were up at the crack of dawn both days. We couldn't have done this without our volunteers." The money will be used for operation and maintenance of the shelter, for the purchase of food and kitty litter, and to pay vet bills.
