WAUNETA -- Irene Grace (Walling) Gerih, 84, died Wednesday (March 30, 2005) at the Garden Park Medical Center in Golf Port, Miss.
She was born Aug. 15, 1920, to Ward L. and Grace E. (DeGarmo) Walling. She grew up and attended school in Wauneta.
On May 24, 1937, she married Howard John "Joe" Gerih in Holyoke, Colo. The couple made their home in Wauneta for many years. Her husband died in 1992. She lived in Wauneta for many years before moving to Mississippi. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wauneta.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; son, Gerald; brothers, Robert and Ward Walling; and sisters, Peggy Haarberg, Nellie Haarberg and Gradys Grose.
Survivors include her daughter, Myrna Brown and husband, Jim of Biloxi, Miss.; son, Joe Gerih of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Barbara Castolina and husband, Herbert of Gulfport, Miss.; son, Randy Gerih and wife, Jan of Aurora, Colo.; brother, Glen Walling and wife, Lola of Atwater, Calif.; sister, June Cox of Wauneta; sister, Fern Duhm and husband, Carl of Turlock, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Services are today, 2 p.m. (MDT), at United Methodist Church of Wauneta with the Rev. Murray Schmechel officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta.
Memorials may be given to the Wauneta Senior Center.
