LINCOLN -- The Husker Stars Diving Club and the Bob Devaney Sports Center were the hosts for the US Diving's Region IV Springboard Diving Championships last weekend.

McCook's Jessica Hall returned to the home of the Husker women's swim team four weeks after placing sixth in the state championships.

Hall competed in the girls 16-18 year-old one-meter event and placed 27th. Her score was 231.05 on 10 dives.

Hall was competing in an "unattached" status, not associated with a particular diving club.

Thirty divers were in this status while the remaining 118 divers belonged to one of the 20 diving clubs that were represented. A total of 148 divers from 12 states were present to compete in the one and three meter springboard events. They were divided into four age groups. Both boys and girls competed.

Residency is not a requirement to compete, so divers from as far west as Hawaii and Southern California, and as far east as Charlotte, N.C., and from Texas and Oklahoma, to Minnesota were competing, trying to place in the top six to advance to the West Championships in Houston April 29-May 1.

Once the high school swim season has ended, swimmers and divers become eligible to participate in amateur competition such as this USA Diving sanctioned meet.

The top placers in these meets work their way up the brackets with their sights on the Speedo National Junior Championships Aug. 3 in Huntersville, N.C.
