Ruth Elaine Holmes, 83, of Loveland, Colo., and formerly of Estes Park, Colo., died March 22, 2005, at McKee Medical Center in Loveland.
She was born July 15, 1921, to William C. and Hannah (Ross) Deines of Harvard.
Ruth attended grade school and high school in Culbertson. She was a graduate of teacher's training at Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kan. She taught K-8th grade in a one room school house for one year.
On April 26, 1942, she married Arland Ethan Holmes of Hamlet in McCook. Arland entered the Army in the Medical Corp and together they traveled the country as he was stationed at numerous hospitals.
The couple moved to Estes Park where Ruth and her husband owned and operated the Clever Crafters craft and gift shop for forty years.
Ruth was active in the Mariners group and the Women's Circle at the Community Church. She wrote several craft books and a weekly newspaper craft column. She and her family were frequent guests on the Merrie Lynn Show on Channel 4. She enjoyed letter writing, playing the piano and singing.
She is survived by one, Donald Holmes of Estes Park; two daughters, Jeanne Guatney and husband, David of Sequim, Wash., and Joyce Shaulis and husband, Jerry of Loveland; three sisters-in-law, Lavina LaSalle of Palos Height, Ill., Merita Larson of McCook, Esther Deines of Valencia, Calif.; Aunt Vesper Ross of Culbertson; step-mother, Ella Deines of Wichita, Kan.; half-brothers, Evan Deines and wife, Sharolyn of Wichita, and Edward Deines and wife, Wendy of Ephrata, Pa.; three grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Cremation is planned and a memorial servie will be Wednesday, April 6, 2005, 3 p.m., at the Presbyterian Community Church of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colo.
