IMPERIAL -- Calvin M. Pierce, 87, died Sunday (March 27, 2005) at Heritage of Wauneta Nursing Home in Wauneta.
He was born July 7, 1917, to Frank and Florence (Rummell) Pierce on his parents farmstead northwest of Lamar. He attended school near District 75 and later graduated from Chase County High School in 1936. He attended Barnes Business College in Denver, Colo., for a year.
On June 4, 1939, he married Marcia Jenkins of Holdrege. The couple lived on the family farm.
He was a member of the Lamar Christian Church and then the United Methodist Church in Imperial. He served as precinct chairman on the Old Triple A Farm Program and later on the ASC Precinct Committee. He also served on the local school board and was appointed to the hospital board in Imperial. He was elected president of the board and president of the hospital building committee. He also served on the Chase County Historical Museum board.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcia; and his daughter, Susan Kay (Pierce) Grothen.
Survivors include two granddaughters; five great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; and many cousins.
Services are Friday, 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Imperial with the Rev. Murray Schmechel and Rev. Francis Baker officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.
Visitation is Thursday, 2-6 p.m., at Liewer Funeral Home in Imperial.
Memorials may be given to the Chase County High School, which will be presented to a student who plans to pursue their education in nursing.
