Soldiers welcomed home

Amanda Jo McArthur, daughter of John and Paula McArthur of McCook holds her daughter, Kora, after arriving home from Iraq Saturday. Also waiting to welcome his mommy home was Tatum (not pictured). A bus carrying 23 Nebraska Army National Guard soldiers was escorted into town by the McCook Police Department, McCook Fire and Rescue and the Red Willow County Sheriff's office.The group arrived at the armory at 1:45 p.m., and was welcomed back during a brief ceremony. McCook City Council Vice President Bill Longnecker told the group of soldiers and about 200 supporters "When I watched everyone come in I saw the tears, the hugs, the kisses and all I could think was community. On behalf of the community we welcome you home." The soldiers arrived in the Middle East on March 23, 2004, and were on their way home on March 21, 2005.
