Chase County boys, girls sweep Don Stine invite

CAMBRIDGE -- The Chase County-Imperial High School boys and girls track teams swept the titles at the Don Stine Invitational at Cambridge Wednesday.

The Chase County boys scored 195 points and the girls 184.

Cambridge finished second in the boys division with 155 points, followed by Alma 82, Wauneta-Palisade 76, Cheylin 7 and the Cambridge junior varsity 6.

Alma placed second in the girls division with 141 points, followed by Cambridge 106, Wauneta-Palisade 77, Cheylin 7, Cambridge JV 4, Chase County JV 1 and Wauneta-Palisade JV 1.

Maywood titles

The Dundy County boys and the Eustis-Farnam girls claimed first-place titles at the Maywood Invitational track meet Thursday.

The invite took place at the McCook High School facilities.

The Dundy County boys edged out Elwood 103 points to 97 for the title.

Eustis-Farnam and Maywood both scored 56 points, followed by Southwest 54, McPherson County 49, Hitchcock County 45, Medicine Valley 31, Hayes Center 25 and Paxton 12.

The Eustis-Farnam girls clipped Dundy County 91-83 for the championship.

Medicine Valley scored 75 points, followed by McPherson County 72, Southwest 65, Hitchcock County 55, Elwood 47, Maywood 21, Paxton 11 and Hayes Center 4.

KEARNEY -- Several area high school athletes exceled at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Indoor Track Meet last weekend.

Hitchcock County and Southwest placed fifth and 12th in the Class C boys division with 37 and 7 points.

The Hitchcock County and Southwest girls teams placed ninth and 10th in Class C with 15 and 4 points.

In Class D boys, Cambridge placed fifth and Eustis-Farnam was 10th with 32 and 16 points.

In Class D girls, Cambridge tied for 12th with 10 points and Eustis-Farnam was 15th with 6 points.

Cambridge's Kaci Nickerson, one of the state's best pole vaulters, won the Class D girls competition with a 10 foot effort.

JennaLee Harris, an unattached competitor, also cleared 10 feet but had more misses than Nickerson.

Cambridge's Lisa Minnick and Andi Langley placed 1-4 in the shot put. Minnick posted a mark of 39 feet and Langley's mark was 34-4.

Eustis-Farnam's Ashton Reiker won the Class D girls high jump by clearing 5-4.

Cambridge's Shannon Macke was second in the mile run with a time of 6 minutes, 36.7 seconds.

In Class D boys, Cambridge's Kyle Custer finished first in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:20.2.

In Class C2 girls, Hitchcock County's Kate Voss and Southwest's Alisha Weaver placed 2-3 in the 200-meter dash with times of 30.22 and 30.5.

Hitchcock County's Kelly Bernt was second in the 400 and 800 with times of 1:05.81 and 2:41.14.

Teammate Trisha McDonald was fourth in the mile run with a time of 6:45.08.

Laken Cook was fourth in the 3000 race (13:45.79) and the pole vault (7-6).

In Class C2 boys, Southwest's Burton Burton was fourth in the mile run (5:09.79) and Hitchcock County's David Paprocki was fourth in the 400 (57.0).
