McCook senior Jeremy Young

selected for Shrine Bowl

LINCOLN -- The 47th annual Nebraska Shrine Bowl Football Game will be played on at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 23 at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.

McCook High School standout Jeremy Young, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound tight end/defensive end, was the lone area player to make the team.

The Shrine Bowl Parade is set for 10 a.m. the morning of the ballgame on Havelock Ave. in Northeast Lincoln, sponsored by the Havelock Merchants.

The North team will be coached by Ron Mimick of David City Aquinas High School. The South team will be coached by Carl Tesmer of Hastings St. Cecilia High School.

Sappa Valley

Shootout slated

for April 16

OBERLIN -- The 2005 Sappa Valley Shootout Youth 3 on 3 basketball tournament will take place at Oberlin on Saturday, April 16.

Boys and girls in grades 3-10 are eligible to participate.

The tournament will take place in the Decatur Community Junior and Senior High school gyms and is sponsored by the Oberlin Cyclones MAYB boys team.

Entry fees are $30 per team and are due to Sue Glodt by Wednesday, April 6.

Entry forms have been distibuted to area schools or are available at www.sappavalleyshootout.com.

NWKL basketball

teams announced

OBERLIN -- The Northwest Kansas Basketball League named its all league boys and girls teams.

Representing the area on the boys team was Lance Fortin of Oberlin who made first team and Jeff Reiner who made honorable mention.

Chelsie Kramer and Ariel Dunker, both of Rawlins County-Atwood, were named first team.

Jamie Elwood of Oberlin also made first team. Kaitlyn Stapp also of Oberlin was named honorable mention.

EUSTIS -- The Central Platte Conference All Conference boys and girls basketball teams were named this week.

Representing the area on the boys first team team were Ryan Wetovick of Eustis-Farnam and Jordan Wilcox of Medicine Valley.

Josh Nutt and Evan Wach of Eustis-Farnam and Drew Lindvall of Medicine Valley made the conference all star team.

Lisa Fagot, Christina Schroeder and Chelsea Wolf all of Eustis-Farnam made the All-Conference girls first team.

Lacy Bryant and Kesha Heinze of Medicine Valley and Jessika Lehman of Eustis Farnam were named honorable mention.

Southwest track

teams compete

at UNK meet

KEARNEY -- The Southwest High School boys and girls track teams competed in the Class D division at the University of Nebraska-Kearney High Indoor Invitational Saturday.

The Roughrider girls scored 7 points and the boys 4.

In girls competition, Southwest's Alisha Weaver placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.2 seconds.

The girls 3200-meter relay team of Chelsea Morgan, Alisha Weaver, Michelle Brodd and Ashley Weaver placed sixth with a time of 12 minutes, 6.9 seconds.

The Roughrider boys picked up their 4 points when Burton Burton placed fourth in the mile run with a time of 5:09.7.

YMCA taking

registrations

for summer

softball program

The YMCA is taking registrations for its summer girls softball program. With the additiion of the new computer software, it's easier than ever to get signed up.

No registration forms are needed. All you need to do is stop by the YMCA and get signed up today.

Remember to get signed up as a coach or sponsor when you register you daughter.

Softball is for all girls in grades K-8 for the 2004-2005 school year.

The cost for the program is $18 for members and $45 for non-members. Practices are scheduled to begin May 16 and games are scheduled to begin on June 6.

K-2 grades play on Monday nights, 3-4 play on Thursday nights, and 5-8 play on Tuesday nights.
