ATWOOD -- Martha Elizabeth (Baalmann) Horinek, 89, of rural Atwood, died Thursday (March 17, 2005) at Good Samaritan Center in Atwood.
She was born Oct. 7, 1915, to William G. and Regina A. (Robben) Baalman on a farm near Angeles, Kan. She was raised on the farm. She attended school in Angeles and graduated high school there.
On Oct. 7, 1947, she married Frank Horinek at St. Paul Catholic Church in Angeles. They lived north of Atwood until her husband preceded her in death on July 5, 2002.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, FCSLA (formerly Catholic Workman), Christian Mothers Altar Society and was a former member of the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church northwest of Atwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Mary Ann and Mary Lou; brothers, Edward Baalman, Urban Baalman and twin brother, Albert Baalman; sisters, Sister Clementia and Sister Mary Theresa; and grandson, Frank Harry Horinek.
Survivors include three sons, Howard H. Horinek of Apache Junction, Ariz., Urban W. Horinek of Maumee, Ohio, and Lester L. Horinek of Ludell; two daughters, Wilma R. Burger of Sylvan Grove, Kan., and Joleen M. Rankin of Abilene, Kan.; one brother, Ralph L. Baalman and wife, Lois of Salina, Kan.; one sisters, Helena C. Bruggeman of Oberlin; ten grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and eight honorary great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian was today, 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood with the Rev. Damian Richards officiating. Interment will be in Sts. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery of Atwood.
Memorials can be given to the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery fund or the Atwood Good Samaritan Center.
