BRULE -- Rexene Ann Schilz, 55, died Friday (March 18, 2005) at her home near Brule.

She was born Feb. 26, 1950, in Lewellen to Frank and Paige Roberts Cady. She spent her childhood years in the Lewellen and Ogallala areas, graduating from Ogallala High School. While in high school, she worked as a nurse's aide at the Ogallala Community Hospital and as a dispatcher for the Ogallala Police Department. After graduation, she took courses through Mid-Plains Community College.

On July 8, 1967, she married Dennis Schilz of Brule. They made their home in the Brule and Ogallala communities for the past 37 years. In addition to raising three children, she did bookkeeping and office work at McGinley-Schilz Company. She also volunteered her time as an election judge for Keith County, Meals on Wheels and at St. Luke's Catholic School.

She enjoyed spending time gardening, traveling, camping with her family, bird watching and bowling. Her favorite past time was sewing and quilting, at which she became an accomplished quilter. Her passion for cooking and the meals she prepared for family and friends will be greatly missed. She had a great love for her animals and was a very kind, loving and generous person.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis of Brule; her mother, Paige Cady of Louisville, Colo.; two sons, Kenneth and wife, Deb, Stephen and wife, Amy, all of Ogallala; one daughter, Kristene and her husband, Ryan Orbus of Snohomish, Wash.; mother-in-law, Wilma Schilz of Ogallala; several nieces and nephews; and other family members in the Southwest Nebraska area.

Preceding her in death are her father, Frank; sister, Barbara Hayford; and father-in-law, Leo Schilz.

A memorial has been established to the St. Luke's Preschool in Ogallala.

There will be no visitation as cremation was chosen.

Rosary services is today, 7 p.m., at St. Luke's Catholic Church with a memorial mass on Wednesday, 10 a.m., at St. Luke's. Inurnment will be at the Ash Hollow Cemetery.
