BEATRICE -- Katherine "Barbara" Bergan, 80, died Wednesday ( March 16, 2005) at Parkview Center in Beatrice.

She was born June 27, 1924, in Hanover, Kan. She attended country school near Washington, Kan., and St. John's Catholic School in Hanover, Kan. She was a waitress.

On Aug. 12, 1961, she married Daniel Bergan. She lived in Trenton and Omaha before moving to Beatrice in 2000.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Trenton and St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Joseph Altar Society and Circle One of Beatrice.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Bergan on Sept. 21, 1969; and her parents, Elgie and Catherine (Steinlein) Fritschi.

Survivors include her son, Michael J. Bergan of Los Angeles, Calif.; brother, Robert Fritschi and wife, Loretta of Hanover; sisters, Josephine Fritschi of Beatrice, Mary Harries and husband, Art of St. Mary's, Kan., and Theresa Rettele of Hiawatha, Kan.; and sister-in-law, Ellen Janousek of Trenton.

Mass of Christian burial is Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beatrice with the Rev. Casey Porada officiating. Interment will be in St. James Cemetery in Trenton.

Visitation is one hour before services at the church.
